Sebastian* and I looked towards the stage from our wooden seats in the elementary school's auditorium and giggled.
That's how Sebastian and I started dating in the fifth grade: we were both actors in P.S. 110's version of "A Midsummer Night's Dream."
Since we were "Epilogue" and "Prologue,"--very important roles, I know--we only needed to don our black capes and climb the stage at the beginning and end of the play. These large gaps afforded us a lot of time to get to know one another.
In thinking about our years of elementary school dating, I can't help but smile. We were so young, it was a time when we had no bills to worry about and no kids of our own to take care of.
One of the worst things to happen to us, then, was to break up when we graduated from sixth grade--we were going to different middle schools, and I didn't know how we could keep up our secret relationship.
Life is harder now, but I'm so glad Sebastian and I met up again all these years later. I had never forgotten him, and he had never forgotten me. On our first adult date, we fell easily into talking about our past, present and future.
I thank God for bringing Sebastian back into my life, and I'm grateful that the magic of romance could find us once more.
How did you meet your significant other?
